Where to stay near Shatrunjay Taleti — a yatrik's guide

Most people searching for hotels in Palitana are here for one reason: the climb up Shatrunjay. What matters is how far your room is from Taleti, whether pure Jain food is available, and whether the place is awake at 4 am when you set out. On those three counts a yatri bhawan usually beats a standard hotel.

Best area to stay

Taleti Road is the preferred area. It runs towards the base of Shatrunjay hill, so you avoid an early morning rickshaw hunt, and it is quieter than the bus stand side of town. Shri Chennai Chandra Yatri Bhawan sits on this road with open parking, a lift, an inner courtyard and AC and non-AC rooms.

When to visit Palitana

November to February is the most comfortable season for the 3,800-step climb. Rooms fill quickly around Kartik Purnima and other parvs, so book several weeks ahead for those dates. Summer months are hot — start the climb very early. The temples on the hill remain closed at night, so the yatra is completed and returned within the day.

Planning your stay

  • · Reach Palitana a day before the yatra and rest in the evening.
  • · Confirm bhojanshala timings with the office when you check in.
  • · Keep light cotton clothing, a stick and water for the climb.
  • · Doli (palanquin) service is available at Taleti for elders.
  • · See the photo gallery and directions before you travel.
